Problem with Skype
I'm having some trouble with Skype on the main edition of Linux Mint: Gloria on my HP Pavilion dv9000. Let me take you through what I've done.. (skip through the bolded area to go straight to the problem)
1. When I tried to make a call, a "problem with audio playback" message came up before ever ringing. To fix that, I went through the terminal and followed this guide:
* killall pulseaudio
* sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio
* sudo apt-get install esound
* sudo rm /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio
As far as I know, this changed my pulseaudio for esound.
2. At this point, it would actually ring when I made a call, but instead of hearing anything, I found a "problem with audio capture." To fix this, I went back to my package manager and installed skype-static-oss in the place of skype as suggested by people having similar problems.
Now, when I make a test call, I can hear everything (although not too clearly, but I'm not going to be picky right now). The problem I have is that my microphone seems to not be working. Can anyone help me out with this?
(I explained everything I did before, in case anyone can find a point where I messed things up)
Thank you in advance!

Unmute your microphone.

just go into skype preferences, go to audio section and then play around with the capture and sound devices. Do a test call after every change and it'll spit out an error or let you through. I have to do this frequently on skype (but I know which combination works so it's pretty quick)

I went to the volume control and tried to un-mute everything. Under the "recording" tab, when I unmute the only option there (digital), it remains muted after I exit the volume control and re-enter it.
I tried this for a pretty good part of yesterday. I actually think this may be a problem with my internal microphone, because I can't record anything in the sound recorder, either.
Is there anything I can do???

If you think it's the microphone volume settings, try playing around with the Volume Control a bit more. Under File you can change the device, and under Edit -> Preferences you can select more tracks to be visible. I also have sliders for microphones under the Playback tab.
Good luck!OS's I use: Debian testing, Debian stable, Ubuntu, Windows XP, Windows Vista
