    cant use @ or # symbols in ubuntu

    when i try to use these symbols they show up as a " or a (...all others seem to work fine, an ideas? keyboard is detected as generic 101 or whatever, tried switching to IBM keyboard with change....

    ok i got it figured out, i just had to manually set my keyboard to either Canada or US and for some reason it was in Latin US making the @ key also a " and some fraction (1/3) , set it to US English all problems solved
