    [SOLVED] monitor resolution

I bought a vga switch for my 2 computers now when i start my Kubuntu computer it starts in 640x320. Can I force it to use 1024x768 at 75Hz? I know this should work as when I plug the computer straight into the monitor then turn it on it starts fine, if I then keep the computer switched on and plug it into the switch it works, but pulling the computer out and changing the wires everytime I need to restart the computer is very irritating! I found threads for this but they were very confusing...

    Help is appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Dale

you'll need to edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf most likely, what kind of card are you using?
    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17

    Thanks for your reply.
    I'm using a Nvidia GeForce 6200.

Should I also post my current xorg.conf?

nope that makes it even easier. Get a program called nvidia-settings

if you're running Ubuntu just do

    sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings

then run nvidia-settings as sudo or su (if you're not using Ubuntu)

go into x server display configuration, set things up however you want them and save to x configuration file

one thing, you may want to back up your current xorg by doing the following command

    sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
    Bodhi 1.3 & Bodhi 1.4 using E17
Dell Studio 17, Intel Graphics card, 4 gigs of RAM, E17

    Thankyou jmadero!

This program has solved all of my problems, this program even has digital vibrace! Why dont they included this program with Ubuntu? If they are not allowed to then it coud prompt you while you are installing the drivers. This program would of helped me a lot from the start. Anyway, thanks again!

I would change the thread to solved if i knew how....

Ubuntu has a philosophy of not including proprietory software, that's why they don't include this software (or the nvidia driver) out of box. As for including it in an easy prompt way, not sure, maybe add that to the ubuntu brainstorm page. I have found it quite useful many times (although I still enjoy messing around with the xorg file once in awhile). To mark as solved on the top go to thread tools, you'll see it no problem
