    Printer Drivers?

Apologies if theres a tutorial or similar for this, I dont see one but then again I miss a lot of things LOL!

Anyway I have yet to get my printer set up in Linux. Its a basic no frills HP Deskjet D1460. So I was in Windows and went to print a document. The printer started printing just fine..except the page came out blank! It was only then I realised I had not rebooted and was still in Ubuntu. So without having done anything in the way of set up or installing drivers etc the PC is managing to communicate to the printer. I was quite impressed.

So my basic question is simply what do I need to do to complete the process. I assume I need to install some drivers. Where are these located? And anything else I need to do?

Go to your favorite web browser and enter the following into the location bar:

    Code:
    localhost:631
Just follow the prompts for adding your printer.

Hopefully, the drivers are already installed. If not, you might be able to use the D1470 drivers.

You can check here for more info:

should just be plug and play....you won't get all the same options that you would in Windows but you'll be able to print and change a few basic settings

Thanks for that. Its good to see that CUPS detects my printer. However, what I think I need is a tutorial or set of instruction on what to enter in the various fields within the CUPS interface. I'm not sure what I'm doing here. The help documentation on the webpage is aimed at someone who know what they are doing.
e.g. it detects my printer and lists it as D1400 series under Class. But beyond that I'm not sure what I what I'm doing. Do I list the D1400 again under individual printer? And then all the other fields.....

you should just be able to click okay and it should be listed in your printers and ready to go. You shouldn't have to mess with cups at all....I'm not sure where you are getting your instructions from but for most main stream printers it's just plug in, let it detect, be able to print.

Go to system -> admin -> printers and see if your printer is listed in there

Yes I've just done that and my printer was indeed listed. (The thing is when I tried to print a document it printed a blank page. )
I followed the Troubleshoot option under help and when it printed a Test Page it was again blank! The log it generated is below. I assume the "cups connection failure" on line two is the root of the problem?
