    Web design

Yes, I have the same question. I can't find any web design program to use with Ubuntu. I have tried Kompozer but it crashes and is inconsistent. Mostly I have been using Frontpage for years before I recently switched my computer to Ubuntu. I would really like to find ANY program to work on Ubuntu.

You can look here for some options that might work for you:

    HTML | Linux App Finder

Any of them should run under a properly configured Ubuntu/Kubuntu system.

The best web page editor will probably be one of the simple text editors such as gedit, kwrite, kate, or something similar, because the wysiwyg editors will usually produce terrible code, although it will produce a web page. I remember years ago when I last used Front Page, it generated some of the worst code I've ever seen.

Note that it's generally best to use the default package tool for your distribution to install software, so try that before installing anything from source.

If you do not mind writing your own html, then you could try Bluefish, Quanta and Aptana Studio.

Thank you ozar and daark child. A couple of thoughts. First, the programs you mention daark child are not listed in the default add programs for ubuntu which is what I am hoping to stay with. I can do HTML. In fact I prefer HTML. So gedit or Kate would be fine EXCEPT for the major problem of 2 steps. Correct me if I am wrong but with Kate and gedit I have to edit and then save on my computer and then FTP through a different program. I am hoping to do that all in one program. Kompozer does it, though it is also not a default Ubuntu program. I am really hoping there could be a program for Ubuntu to do text editing and FTP within the same application. Have a great day.

The programs I mentioned should achieve your needs. The Ubuntu default installation only includes a very small subset of programs that are available for Linux (stuff that they think everyday people use). You shouldn't restrict yourself to these apps, because there might be better apps in the official and third party repositories.

Yes, you are correct, you'd need to write your page, save it, then open a web browser to check it, and use an FTP client to upload the page to a server. The advantage to using a common text editor is that the code can be as good as your coding skills will allow. Hope you are able to find something you like.
