What package specifically are you trying to install, and how are you trying to install it?

I have tried this in ubuntu 8.10, but it comes up with dependency problems, with gtk files and glade. How do I get these dependencies, in order for it to work?
pptpconfig wants php-gtk-pcntl.
php-gtk-pcntl: Depends: libglade0 but it is not installable
Depends: libglib1.2 (>= 1.2.0) but it is not installable
Depends: libxml1 (>= 1:1.8.14-3) but it is not installable

What do you mean by "not installable"? I do know that libglade is up to version 2 at least, and libxml likewise is at version 2. Even on my CentOS/RHEL system, libxml is at 2.6.26, libglade is 2.6.0 (libglade2 not libglade0). Also, pptp* and php-gtk-* are not in my repositories, so it is likely that they need to be installed from source. In fact, that's probably what you will need to do because of the dependency problems requiring deprecated versions of some of these libraries.

Have you tried to install from source (build for your system instead of install pre-built binaries)?
