Newbie and video driver (no 3d)
Hello I am a Ubuntu and LINUX newbie. Install goes easy but I can not get 3D accelerated graphics to work. So I am stuck with poor and slow graphics. I tried and tried with the ATI card and went back to make onboard the primary. Neither seems to allow for visual effects upgrade nor 3d graphics in games.

I've tried to search and tries a few things with the ATI card but just ended up getting no video. Appreciate any help. Sorry if there is an easy solution I've missed!

Welcome to the forums!

If you haven't done so already, check the following HowTo for getting your ATI or nVidia graphics card drivers installed and working properly:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bi...erHowto/Nvidia
Let us know how it goes.oz

Thx. I did look at the ATI stuff yesterday and though I got close till I again ended up getting no video which is worse then no 3d acceleration
This stuff is largely greek to me as well:
"sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r`
sudo insmod /lib/modules/`uname -r`/volatile/fglrx.ko"
The first command seemed to work but the second said file (fglrx.ko) not found. Tries some other things and same result.
There is lots on the topic and the link you posted seemed to most informative. It just seems over my LINUX head unfortunately.
