[SOLVED] kernel upgrade and grub entries

Part of a recent Hardy upgrade included an updated kernel version to 2.6.24-24. I decided on the option to retain current grub entries. Now synaptec shows 2.6.24-24 as installed and „uname -r „ returns 2.6.24-23. If I change grub entries will I then be using latest kernel? Obliged for any help here.

No, you need to reboot for the new kernel to take effect

Can you expound on this? Did the newer kernel not get loaded? Did you see a grub menu asking which OS/version you wanted to boot?

Post the contents of /boot/grub/menu.lst file here.
Post the output of this too :
    Code:
    ls /boot
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Changing appropriate values in menu.lst from kernel 2.6.24-23 to 2.6.24-24 brought me up and running into new kernel with „uname -r“ returning correct version. Should I also change kernel values in „recovery“ entry?

Normally there is an entry for the current kernel normal boot and current kernel recovery so yes ... but its up to you.
Previous kernel versions are also left in the menu ... I tend to comment out all but latest and previous kernel version - but again thats up to you
