Sound and Graphics, which is Best???
Hey Guys,

As you may know, I have an Intel Extreme Graphics card, and a Soundmax sound card...
They don't work well with Ubuntu (Jaunty), I can't hear my music, and the graphics is terrible!
So, as a fellow forum member, May I ask you which Sound and Graphics card (take a vote) works best on Ubuntu 9.04, on an HP compaq??
Here's my stats:
HP compaq D330 DT, Soundmax sound card, Intel extreme graphics 2, Intel celeron (2.4Ghz)...
If you need any other hardware info, just say...
Thanks!

LOL there are just many....
As for graphics I would suggest for Nvidia Geforce series as per your budget. because very good drivers are provided by Nvidia.
I'm not sure about sound card. because I use Onborad cards most of the time.

I've always stuck with nVidia graphics cards and Sound Blaster audio cards over the last 9 years of using Linux and they've always worked with any distro that I've ever run (over 45 of them). That said, best is like beauty, in that it lies in the eye of the beholder, at least in my opinion.

Hey, thanks for replying...

How much would a typical Nvidia graphics card and Sound blaster sound card cost...
I'm looking for something cheap, but good enough to play FPS games....
The sound card doesn't have to have sound screaming performance, but I want it to work with no glitches on Ubuntu...
Thanks!

You can get some ideas about the costs for new cards here:
Newegg.com - Graphics / Video Cards, NVIDIA
Newegg.com - Sound Cards, Creative Labs
You can probably find some of the same cards for about the same prices in many cases at other retailers, or on eBay.oz

Thanks Ozar,
I'll check into it...
P.S, is Nvidia compatible with HP motherboards, or are they compatible for all?
Thanks!

You have to make sure that your motherboard has an available slot for the interface type of the video card that you intend to use. If it has one, it will probably be compatible.
