Please be more specific. Do you mean for setting time limits on live connections? Maximum amount of CPU time used? Time of day one can use the system? What? ?? ??

configuring time limits for internet connections and/or firefox.
sorry for the confusion. what i am trying to do is set times limits on internet connections. the reason for this is i put ubuntu on a older computer as a 2nd partition because they were constantly having problems with winb**ws or wind*ws i should. sorry i just don't have a real high opinion of them but, anyway
the problem i am trying to solve is setting firefox or the internet connection to where it will turn off at certain times. so teenager in said home will do there homework instead of playing on facebook all the time.
i know there are ways of doing through terminal and editing the connection and such as that but i would like to find a program to set it with. that way someone can override it if they need to because this is the only internet connection in this house.
thanks again for all help!!!!! i really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah! Got it. You need a nanny!

I presume that they need to use the computer still, but you want to keep them from accessing the Internet. If you want to keep them from accessing the internet at all, then you can use cron to disable the network connection at specific times, and enable it others. If they don't have root or sudo privileges, then you can enforce this pretty easily so that they cannot bypass it. The ifconfig command can be used by a root cron script to disable the network, then they won't be able to access the internet at all. Would that suffice?Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
