Ubuntu 9.04 Wireless not connecting
Hey
Yesterday I installed Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 on my acer laptop; after a whole afternoon spent trying to configure my wireless I finally managed to get linux to recognize my network - problem is, it won't connect.
The little connecting animation plays for about 30 seconds then it says; "wireless disconnected".
I have a Broadcom 4318 network adapter on an Acer Aspire 3630.
Any help would be most appreciated!
Oh. the LAN works fine, I have an Ethernet cable connected to my router to type this.

I recently sorted out some wireless networking issues with my Gentoo box. What is the output of dmesg?

I was having similar problems to this - connected fine with rt73 on usb but couldn't connect with f5d7000 with ndiswrapper.
dmesg was saying it was up to 3 of 5 with authentication, timing out and releasing the card.
Card appears to be working fine now since configured wpasupplicant for wpa-psk with tkip

I have not been able to get wireless working with 3 laptops to date. I have found that pluging in a Belkin usb 802.11g adaptor works 'out of the box'

Belkin can use any number of different chips in their cards. This is usually described as a "version" of the card. The Belkin F5D7050 USB Wireless G has 5 versions, which I found by looking at the driver download page found HERE.
Depending on the chips in it it could "just work" or need some configuring or firmware or a driver installed
There is no magic answer to getting your wireless to work. You need to know the chips that it is using, and the driver that is needed. If firmware is needed, then getting it and keeping it handy to install is the best thing to do. You only should need to download it once, then save it for future upgrades or installs.Paul

The Belkin 802.11g usb adaptor has worked on the laptops I have fitted it to without any problems about drivers. 8.04 to 9.04 seem to have drivers built in. It also works when I plug it into a tower pc. It shows in the wireless connection list as BELKIN F5D7050A. It only costs 9.99 on Ebay and saves a hell of a lot of heartache setting up wireless

What chipset does this wireless have in it? Also, which Linux driver does it use?

Having similar problem with Ubuntu 9.04. Had a hard drive crash on Vista, so I iran Ubuntu live boot CD on it to retrieve the files, and since it worked I decided to wipe the hard drive clean and install Ubuntu as the OS. Everything seems to be working on it now, but I cannot get my wireless internet to work (as info, the wired network connection does work). I've searched thru the message boards thinking it's a driver issue or something like that, but can't find anything. Tried to install the drivers from Gateway website, but when using ndiswrapper, there's no .INF file. Brand new to the game, so need help from the ground-up, unfortunately.
System is gateway laptop purchased 2 years ago. Has a built-in wireless card (not sure how to detect the mfg of the wireless, but it is A-B-G-N capable) and the router I'm using is a 2-wire 2701 HG-B
