Im trying to install it on my ps3 by using a usb drive but it wont work. i got it to boot from it but then it starts looking for cdrom drivers and says it cannont find and mount cdrom??? It said this was for ps3 and it has a ps3 folder but then why does it do that? How do i get it to read from the usb and not look for disk drives?

That does not mention how to boot and install totally from usb...
- 07-10-2009 #6Hard to figure when all you say is it won't work. Then you sayIm trying to install it on my ps3 by using a usb drive but it wont work.
which means what? First it don't work. Next it boots. Did you follow Ubuntus Page on making a Bootable USB Drive?https://help.ubuntu.com/community/In...n/FromUSBSticki got it to boot from it but then it starts looking for cdrom drivers and says it cannont find and mount cdrom?
Especially this part below which shows the help and cheatcodes page for booting up Ubuntu.
If you need to activate the original Ubuntu livecd boot menu, for example if you want to disable the framebuffer or read the Ubuntu livecd HELP screens and cheatcodes, please make these changes to your USB drive after your UNetbootin installation is completed:
1) Delete the SYSLINUX.CFG file or rename it to be SYSLINUX.OLD
2) Enter the ISOLINUX folder and rename the ISOLINUX.CFG file to be SYSLINUX.CFG
3) Move up to the top level and rename the ISOLINUX folder to be SYSLINUXLinux Registered User # 475019

would it work to plug in a external cd-rom reader to the ps3 through usb and use the normal live cd install method? I heard some used a ide-usb adapter and installed this way. And i tryed to install opensuse 11.1 on my ps3 and it says no resportory found?

I'm having this EXACT same problem you had.
'cannot find and mount cdrom"
the window there says
'No common cd-rom detected'
Have you managed to get your linux working on your ps3 by now(and how)?
I've checked literally tons of discussion boards for a solution to this problem but haven't managed to find a way around. Here are the things i've already tried:
1. downloaded and installed other OS (otheros.bld) via USB from multiple sites
2. downloaded and installed Petiboot (some graphics one) basically the same as step 1
3. downloaded and tried installing a freshly downloaded file(same as i was trying in a hope for a fix if the file got corrupted during download)
4. downloaded and tried installing jaunty jackalope, karmic alternate for ps3 'versions 9.04'
The only differences i see here is in the versions of linux and that I tried installing with the iso burnt on 'disc' aswell(both iso as data on disc and iso's content on disc).
Mine is a ps3 160gig made in hong kong if that helps.
I'd be glad if ANYONE can help me on this.
