Ubuntu connecting to a windows server 2000

In our office workplace, 1/3 of the PCs are on pentium 3 and the rest on p4 and dual cores. Most of the OS are windows 2000 and a bit on XP.

I want to switch the client PCs to xubuntu since windows is becoming expensive and since 1/3 dont really have that much cpu power in them.

Is it possible to connect xubuntu to a windows nt based network environment? If so, how?

you can connect to windows shares and join the domain, you would need the samba server in order to create windows shares on the client
