Well I don't know of any on GUI applications off the top of my head, but there is a nice command line one called clive. Install it with:
To use it, all you have to do is copy the url of the youtube video, and paste it in like:Code:sudo apt-get install clive
Make sure to get rid of anything past the video identifier (v=XXXX...), which I believe will be separated by an ampersand which causes some unwanted crap to happen.Code:clive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZQG-DZy7uY

There is a very easy to use Firefox add-on, Video Downloadhelper.

Downloader for YouTube Videos
L4Linux and egan..thank you for replying so quickly.....Egan...I was a little intimidated by the command line...well...mainly because I really don't know how to do it.....the idea of having a downloader.....addon in firefox seemed easy to do....so I did that....it was installed quickly and easily.....and I downloaded my own video from you tube......
Thank you both....so far all my attempts with linux and xubuntu has been very satisfying.....perhaps when I get enough courage .....I will try command line...
Thank You
