I have already installed ubuntu 8.10 and recently i have received ubuntu 9.04 free disc..Is there anyway to upgrade to 9.04 without losing existing data???...

    After entering this command gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade" it asks for a password and after giving it nothing happens...Pls someone help....

    Hmm, looking closer, I think you can only use that method with the alternate install CD.

    It seems like there should be a method to upgrade using the main CD, but maybe not?

    Are you unable to backup your data to do a clean install? Do you have a separate home partition?

    You can also use the Update Manager with an internet connection (open it and check for updates) and it should message you with "upgrade available" followed by some details. Simply click "Upgrade." It's probably a big download because it has to not only upgrade but also update the repositories and all your software.
