Malware Virus UNIX based systems?
My wife(who is a non believer) has a vicious case of Antivirus 2009-pridl.exe, etc). My Mac and mt desktop Ubuntu dist seem to have not suffered. She has been using torrent downloads(I suspect this) She also works for a major CC company as a firewall analyst. She brings her laptop home and joins our lan.(Maybe this is the culprit)
NEVERTHELESS.
IS my Ubuntu vulnerable? How can I protect it if it is? WHat does ClamXav do?

No, your Ubuntu is not vulnerable. Windows viruses cannot run in foreign environment.
Additionally, POSIX compatible systems - incl. Linux (and Mac) - have built up very differently compared to Windows. As a result infecting Linux is pretty close to mission impossible, assuming Linux user doesn't do something stupid. On the other hand, Windows OS can be breached even if all common security measures are in place.
