Unhappy cron, cups, eeepc-acpi and hacking

So my computer just asked me if it could update cron and cups and I let it do the update. To complete the update, it had to replace a file called eeepc-acpi

Now I'm feeling paranoid that my little brother, who has hacked my computer in the past, might have somehow sent a message to my computer saying, "You need to install these updates." I have this fear that the updates are really spyware or key loggers or something.

Does anyone know what these updates are and if they are legitimate, just to ease my paranoid brain?

Thanks. I appreciate any help you can provide.

cron and cups are both genuine. Not running an eeepc, I don't know for sure if those particular programs just came up for updating, but it wouldn't surprise me. cups in particular updates fairly often.
