[SOLVED] Ubuntu 9.04 and HP2133 via drivers

I succeeded to configure my previous OS Ubuntu 8.10 with the via drivers, see

    http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ubu...op-ubuntu.html

Maybe I made a mistake when I upgraded Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 and I have again problems with the display drivers. I have succeeded to reach a good resolution but the desktop is running out of the screen. The old solution, if I done it correctly, doesn't work anymore. Has any one succeeded to fix this problem?

I'm still a newbie, but I'm told that this is a great tool for solving video and multimedia problems.

I hope it helps you too,

This is one of the reasons binary modules without source are such an upkeep and many vendors are not up to the job. Each new kernel requires a new binary written for that kernel or it will refuse to load. If they supplied source, it would be possible to compile your own.

Option source: Via does actually supply some source, though I get the sneaking suspicion it's incomplete for your needs. If you want to try for it, grab the source packages under the Ubuntu 8.10 and 8.04 sections (I don't think at the moment you need the patches). You'll also need build-essential installed in synaptic or aptitude. Each file should have instructions inside as to how to "install."

Option opensource: You can try the unichrome driver again, though I know how well that worked last time.

Option force old binary: You can also try to force the via kernel module (modprobe -f via_chrome9) which may work or may crash.

Ubuntu writers have aparently updated the page: https://wiki.edubuntu.org/LaptopTestingTeam/HP2133 ... The results are not encouraging...

    Current Issues

VIA has recently released a binary driver for Ubuntu 8.10 which adds support for video output to an external lcd. Please see /DisplayConfig810 for a full description of how to use the drivers.
    * OpenChrome driver not working
    * Install may fail (Screen corruption followed by lock up) with the latest BIOS versions. It may be necessary to re-flash the BIOS with an earlier version (download these from the HP website).

    Issues with 9.04

    * X.org doesn't seem to work with 8.10 version of VIA driver (solved by using Openchrome and default xorg.conf)
Getting your setup to work was a nightmare last time, but I think we've just stepped into the twilight zone. If none of the above attempts work, I can only suggest going back to vesa.

I have finally solved the problem by following the instructions below

Linux on the HP 2133 Mini-Note: Installing Ubuntu 9.04 beta

    Code:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Configured Video Device"
    Option "PanelSize" "1024x600"
    EndSection
    Thanks again for the help
