Getting Flash to work on a 64 bit system?

Since flash has an alpha version out here: labs dot adobe dot com/technologies/flashplayer10/ releasenotes_64bit dot html

I'd rather avoid doing any ugly hacks that seem to be all over the internet prior to the release of the above.

Anyway I followed the instructions there and put libflashplayer.so in my plugins folder. Before doing so I removed everything that came up in package manager under "swf" and "flash." However, flash still doesn't work. When I look at current add-ons in firefox I see a bunch listed along with "Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32." This doesn't seem right if I'm looking for r64 instead of r32, but I'm not sure what the r denotes.

    Any idea what's wrong?

I'm happy to do any more tests if they would help solve the problem.

installing flash on ubuntu is easy, if you are running firefox go to a site with flash, and when it prompts you to install the plugin, do it.

You can also install the package flashplugin-nonfree or ubuntu-restricted-extras

I've downloaded the 64 bit flash as you describe and never had problems with it. What is the name of the file that you downloaded?

It should be called libflashplayer-10.0.32.18.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz. I believe the r32 is in reference to the 32 in the release version.
