Laptop keyboard and mouse die, reboot only option.
I've installed Jaunty onto an Asus Eee 1005HA and so far (apart from some minor issues) the only real problem I've got is the following:
Very rarely, maybe once a week or so, the laptop totally looses contact with the keyboard and the synaptic mouse. The power button still works so if I press it I get a real shutdown but basically it's like getting a kernel panic, the only option is to reboot.
An important thing to note is that nothing apart from the input stops working. Music still plays, movies keep going and IM-clients still receive messages.Last edited by linduxed; 08-07-2009 at 03:06 PM. Reason: Spelling

I had a problem with my 901. After a while the keyboard became unusable and also stopped the mouse pad from working. It even happened in the BIOS and removing the keyboard caused the mouse to work without error
Could your problem be caused by a hardware problem in the keyboard? If so you will want to send it back before your warranty expires!Linux User #453176

Well I do have warranty on it, but I have no way to send it back, so I'm afraid that's out of the question.
By the way, the problem disappears after reboot, and it never occurs in lower instances like BIOS or GRUB.Last edited by linduxed; 08-07-2009 at 03:07 PM. Reason: Spelling

Have you checked on the Asus web site for a bios/firmware update? Have you reported this to them?

I haven't reported this, however I think I'll try installing a newer BIOS. The problem is that I most likely wont know if it made a difference, since a week may go by or more before the problem arises again.

I've noticed that the lock doesn't disappear if I do a soft shutdown by pressing the power key (only key that responds). I have to do a hard shutdown by holding down the power key for five seconds.

I own a EEE 900. If I don't unmount a pen drive or sdhc Flash drive properly it will cause a lock up with the keyboard and mouse. Might be related maybe if you keep a flash drive inserted and or pendrive.

It might be some kind of problem with the power save function, if you have it enabled. (ACPI)
