I've never tried it. Are you haveing problems with it or are you just looking for a discussion?

A few things.
A: What is "this"? There are a few programs that will convert youtube flv's to other formats. Most GUI's rely on the transcode package. Anything that relies on the MPlayer/mencoder packages should work.
B: Is this Ubuntu specific? You might be better served in the multimedia thread? Oh, well, too late now (cross posting not allowed here).
C: Promise us you're not ripping commercial copyrighted work.

Edit: I have flashgot plugin which can do the rip, but I often find it easier and faster to just go to /tmp, find the file prefixed with "Flash", copy it to my home dir somewhere and rename it appropriately.

U Tube Ripper
First of all....I do not rip copyrighted material.....from time to time I like to download videos from you tube for later viewing....or something that might have an educational value.....I am just looking for software that would make this easier...so at this point I am looking for a discussion....I believe the program is Debian specific....but don't take my word for it....I am a NEWBIE....as far as linux is concerned....I tried the Firefox pluggin....but for what ever reason I didn't like it.....but again I'm a Newb......I kinda of liked the Ripper.....
Lets talk...
