    Adobe flash player doesn't work

    Hi Guys n Gals
Has anhttp://www.google.co.uk/yone had a problem playing videos within the Adobe Flash Player on the BBC iPlayer site. I have 'apparently' installed and reinstalled the latest most up-to-date .deb for Ubuntu - version 10 of the Linux Adobe Flash installer but, every time I try to play a show on the BBC site a message pops up saying I don't have Flash Player Installed. I have tried re-booting, closing and opening Firefox, reloading pages, using the User Agent to simulate IE6, 7 & 8. All without any affect. Even the Flash tutorial videos on the Adobe site do not play, I just get a black background with no sign of video nor video controls. I have a reasonably good Dell Studio 1537 laptop with an ATI HD3450 card with 256Mb video ram. I can play most other video formats.
I am running Jaunty with Compiz working well. No freezes of any kind - just the usual, ever present slow resize of Window effect that comes with using Compiz.
Any ideas to this frustrating experience welcome.
    Cheers...

    BBC iPlayer install SOLVED!!

After a bit of bother I managed to get this player to work. I now remember having to do the same when I was first trying the player when using Vista (couch, cough...). I had to go to the 'Install BBC iPlayer Desktop'. Followed the install instruction (Note: only Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit was highlighted for me). The install is not completely clean and it looks like something has not worked because a window appeared saying somethign was not available but, I closed the window and slected and played both \tv and radio progs... wow!! Why the hell don't the BBC put a big notice on their site about downloading and installing the player for the desktop??? typical... tuh!!
Anyways, I am now a happy chappie.

Although you seem to have solved your problem, I was going to recommend installing the Adobe flash plugin for Firefox. If you are not using Firefox, why not?

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7

Also, if smooth video is a priority, then disable desktop effects (compiz) It will compete for the video resources, and cause bad video. Since compiz is purely "eye candy", and only good for the "Wow" effect, it really isn't needed.

I run MythTV with HDTV cards, and compiz is one of the first things that I disable.

I'm trying to get flash to work properly too (9.10, though, still 64-bit). My original flash plugin worked, but you couldn't use the buttons. This one now stuffs up. I fixed it on another laptop but don't know how on this one. Flash (firefox for windows), works though.

Type in the URL without including it as a link, or if you can't do that tell us the name of the tutorial.

Spammers would come here, create an account, and spam the forums.

We would then delete the spam and ban the spammer.

They would come back, create a new account, and spam the forums.

We would then delete the spam, and ban the spammer.

Repeat over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

So we put a post count on new members. New members cannot post a link until they reach a required number of posts, currently this is 15. You have already reached that post count, so you are able to post links. Posts in the coffee lounge are not counted.

Any new members reading this, be warned. If you make posts merely to increase your post count, that is considered spam. You and your posts will then be treated like all of the other spammers.

    Solved Automatically

It was solved automatically for me by trying to download the atomic kitlog #2 (about computers, mainly custom-building and overclocking). I advise it for any people who want to custom build or choose a computer part when replacing one or something.
The point is that I went to view it and it automatically got my flash player working
