[SOLVED] retail plus wireless N usb adapter

I have a Retail Plus wireless n usb adapter Model WL-6200c

I have the installation cd for the device, but for some reason ubuntu isn't recognizing it. I have the .inf file though. I've installed ndiswrapper, when I try and open the .inf file with it I'm getting an invalid driver error. Is there anything I have to do with the .sys file?

I'm new to linux, any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

For recent Ubuntu distributions, you don't use the ndiswrapper driver. You will, however, need to find and install the firmware on the system so the builtin driver(s) can use the device.

I'll have to check. You provided (I think) all the information needed to advise you. If any one has access to the firmware for this chip set, please post it here for thornspear. In the meantime, I'll try to find a copy for you, and verify that you don't need a different driver (not likely).

Actually, according to Ubuntu documentation, the 8192USB does require the ndiswrapper (at least as of 8.10). You need to make sure you're using the INF file for Win2000 or WinXP; ndiswrapper doesn't often play nice with other versions.

You can also get the OEM driver directly from Realtek .

I've tried the .inf files from the realtek site with no luck, I keep getting invalid driver errors in ndiswraper. I've even tried making my own .inf file by copying and pasting from here :

    Modem-Help: WNU_driver_v5.1029.zip :: Show `RTL8192U/VistaX64/net8192u.inf` Contents

    Still no luck.

    Can someone PLEASE help!

What version of Ubuntu are you using? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit? Also, what version of ndiswrapper are you trying to use, and how did you install it?

I'm running 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.04. I'm using "windows wireless drivers" that I've installed using add/remove aplications. Here's the info on it:

    input:

    sudo ndiswrapper -i net8192u.inf

    Output:

    driver net8192u is already installed

    Input:

    sudo ndiswrapper -l

    Output:

    net8192u : invalid driver!
