[QUOTE=sahabcse;721455]Hi
Install xp first then install ubunut OS. If you install the windows after the ubuntu means we have to fix the grub for accessing both OS. For fixing the grub follow below url
Re:
I have installed XP first, the problem came when i tried to install ubuntu by creating manual partitions.At the end of the ubuntu installation they ask to import other types of OS but there wasn't any.But in the partitioning place they show a bar which partitions are in and XP is there.

Welcome to the forums!
The SuperGRUB LiveCD is usually pretty good at fixing Linux and Windows bootloader issues:
Super Grub Disk Homepage
You can also find SuperGRUB on the latest version of the Parted Magic LiveCD:
Parted Magic Newsoz

Re:
once i had tried to install Ubuntu dual boot with XP(installed first) in one of my friend's machine and the setup was quit in the middle and when machine was restarted in XP , a file was missing (hal.dll) and XP couldn't be restored using safe mood or command mood.So i'm afraid that i will also have to face that problem.That's why i want to know surely about installing Ubuntu in the correct way.As i told ,in the last screen of installing Ubuntu they are asking to import Other OS but when i tried in my machine there aren't any other OS is showing.I want to knw if i ignore it and go forward will it affect the XP? or Ubuntu and XP both will remain without errors?Is there any method to restore or repair XP using Ubuntu?

It would be helpful if you posted your partition information. Assume you have only one hard drive? To get partition info on Ubuntu, open a terminal/konsole window and type: sudo fdisk -l
Post the output here.
If you get your partitions correct, it's not difficult to modify the boot menu.
