Network Printing Issue
Hi guys,
I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple, but here we go:
I have a Lexmark E232 connected to a Windows 2000 Advanced Server machine that is part of an Active Directory scheme.
I have the Ubuntu machine joined and configured to log-in with AD credentials.
The problem is... I can't find the printer! >.<
Again, I'm sure I'm overlooking something so I'm hoping you guys can help me out.
Cheers!
Oh and don't worry, it IS plugged in, yaddy yaddy yaddah :P The other 20+ Windows machines print to it just fine.
THANKS!

Just curious how you are trying to find the printer. If you go to System->Administration->Printing just click new printer and add it.

I don't think it's quite that simple. Most networked printers require a copy of the printer driver on the PC that is sending the print job to the networked printer. In Windows, this is relatively simple, since a copy of the driver is usually downloaded via the network. This doesn't work for a connected Linux PC.
darksoul7 -- I think you will have to find a Linux driver for the Lexmark E232. You need to do a search on the Ubuntu threads for printer support for Lexmark printers (check to make sure the E232 is included).
For my HP printers it's a global "hplip" driver which covers most HP deskjet printers (which I originally downloaded from SourceForge - its now included in the latest Ubuntu version repositories). There should be a similar type driver for lexmark printers.

Hi and thanks for the quick response.
CT_Wiebe: I have the required driver. From my research, the Generic PCL 5c driver works just fine.
I just can't find the darn thing! Even after I put in the patch to the printer, it says it can't find it
Any other ideas?

Hi,
are you able to ping the server by name?
Have you tried accessing any other shared resources from that server using something like smbclient?
Try smbclient -L <ip address of server>
(just press enter if you are asked for a password)
Is your printer listed in the output of the above?
