read that to no avail.my card is a gn-wmkg with the ralink rt 2500 chipset.i think i'm probably not quite sure yet how to easily use terminal and that is where my problem lies.used to windows and wizards and all that in xp...looking for easy to follow directions on how to install the driver using(i guess?) terminal?i am pretty sure i have downloaded the correct driver package from ralink site but can't find any install files in it...thanks for response!

To open a terminal, go to Applications->Accessories->Terminal
Following the instructions in the sticky thread and post the output of the various commands. It will help us verify the chipset of you card and figure out what might be wrong.
Also, what version of Ubuntu are you running? If the card is the rt2500, it should work out of the box. Though I have seen some issues with download speed and the default networkmanager, with this card in Ubuntu 9.04.
