command "sudo shutdown now" gets PC to reboot

    When i enter commands
"sudo shutdown now" or "sudo halt"
it gets my ubuntu 9.04 kernel 2.6.28-14-generic to reboot. I can shutdown by the GUI. But the commands make ubuntu start loading again. No grub or POST screen is shown the ubuntu progress bar just comes directly booting ubuntu again.

    Help will be greatly appreciated.
