    Transmission Bitorrent Client

Hello All. Dave the Newbie here again, with another plea for help. I've tried everything I know (which admittedly isn't much), AND I've read all the help files in Transmission, but I can't get it to work. I've went into a terminal and pinged, and that worked flawlesssly, and obviously I can get on the internet, so Firestarter is not the problem. I THINK one of the problems is that I can't find an open port. Can anyone help, or at least give me a starting point?

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

You have not mentioned what is the exact problem?
Are you unable to download? or something like that?

Install ktorrent, and see if it works. I couldn't figure out how Transmission actually works, but ktorrent is O.K. for me.
If you need a CD/DVD catalogizer, give a try to my program:

Unable to Download or upload. When I go into the Preferences screen, Network tab, and put in ANY port number, and it tests it, it comes back with "Port closed". I've tried the 33111 that is the default, and I've tried in the 500000 and up range, as suggested in some documentation I read somewhere. Also Vuze (formerly Azureus) won't work either. I had a router in the circuit, but have taken it out. Now it's just fiber optic cable to the ISP's modem outside the house, and CAT 5 cable from there directly to the motherboard-based network connector on the computer.

Further info: I went into terminal mode, set a rule to open the port I chose to use, rebooted the computer, went back into terminal mode, pulled up ufw, checked the status to show the rule, then loaded Transmission, tested the port, and it is still closed. I'm lost at this point. Minthaka, I will try ktorrent and let you kjnowhow it goes,

    Go HERE
and Forward the specific port or port range.
For example 6881 to 6889 or just 6881
    Once you complete configuring.
Check HERE if your port is properly forwarded

Tried everything suggested, without success. Can't figure it out. Have tried it with and without the router, have configured the router per Port Forward instructions. Nothing works. I know it's something simple, now if I just knew what it was..... Anyone want to take this newbie by the hand and walk him through it?

Are you sure the tracker is working properly? Are you able to let us know which torrent you're trying to download?
