    Exclamation 32/64-bit

I have a laptop and an old desktop. I downloaded 32-bit ubuntu for the old desktop, then used the installation CD again to install ubuntu on the new laptop. I've just realised that I've got 32-bit on the laptop,, so I was wondering whether I can install a 64-bit ubuntu without losing my configuration changes, programs, and files.

Clean reinstall of 64 bit Ubuntu will wipe 32 bit Ubuntu.

Is there any way to do it without a clean install, though?

Sorry Matt, Not that I am aware of. I run 32 bit on my 64 bit Desktop with no problems. If I was you I'd leave well enough alone. There is no noticiable improvement unless you are running over 4 gig of ram going 64 bit. If You have over 4 gig of ram then yeah, go for it.

What about on 4 gig of ram?
PS. How big is notable (in percentage)
