I downloaded the file to my desktop and then

    1. Opened the .bz2 file by double clicking it
    2. Dragged the firefox folder in there to my home directory
    3. Opened the new firefox folder
    4. Created a shortcut on my desktop to /home/elija/firefox/firefox
    5. Deleted the original download file.

This will only install it for the specific user

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

I extracted it to /home, renamed .mozilla to .mozilla.bak, renamed firefox to .mozilla and added a launcher to the panel. I then had to come up with a link to launch it. It turned out to be unduly complicated, so elija probably has the better and simpler way to do it.

I'm not sure which version you are using, but in 9.04 it is in the package manager as firefox-3.5
