    Get Hard Drive Stuff No Monitor :(

    HI All,

    I'm in a crappy situation. My monitor in my laptop died on me completely, it's been 6 years since I've bought a laptop so I decided to get a new one and piece this one apart. I assumed if I bought a Dell I'd be able to pop this hard drive into it and get my stuff off of it....of course, I can't.

    So my question is if there is a way to remotely access it without being able to do anything on my computer right now because no monitor. I need that stuff and I will buy a converter if I need to but...I don't want to if I can just remotely get the stuff.

    Thanks all

    1) Plug in an external monitor
    2) OS doesn't require a monitor to boot. If the OS is fine and you had SSH, NFS, VNC, FTP, or something else enabled, access it over the network.

    Worst case - purchase a small 2.5" IDE => USB adapter = $14

    (I'm assuming the new laptop drive is SATA while the old one is IDE.)

    all right looks like I'm buying it. External doesn't work with it either (for some reason it's not detected at boot and I always had to access it through nvidia-settings)...also, it could be my graphics card in which case external or internal wouldn't work. Looks like I'm having to buy the converter

    $14 is a *cheap* price to make up for not having a backup of important data. What would you have done if the HDD was hosed?

    I actually do have a backup but not updated enough (about a month old), also it doesn't have config stuff that makes it easier when I install to have the config stuff...I don't back that stuff up but it's definitely easier

    It's not the price it's just waste, but I'll buy it and then sell it after
