Ubuntu VM + Samba running on Windows 2003 = Not working

I am running Windows 2003 R2 and I am unable to access Samba shares running on a Ubuntu VM on the same machine. The local machine (Win2k3) and the VM (Ubuntu 9.04) both have unique static IPs running off the same NIC and both are in the same workgroup with the same netmask. I can see the netbios name in 'View workgroup computers' and I am able to access this samba share from my WindowsXP SP3 machine from an external IP. However when I attempt to access the share either by using \\COMPUTERNAME\share or \\IP\share or by double clicking on the netbios name in My Network Places -> View Workgroup, I get the following error:

No network provider accepted the given network path.

This is certainly not an issue with the linux side of things (as I am able to access these shares from external Windows XP machines). I believe this is an issue with either Windows 2003 networking or group policy. Can someone please help?

what kind of the network are you connecting with the VM.
you can try to change the vm's network ,such as NAT.
and change the IP once more!

Im using a bridged network for the VM but the connection has its own static IP separate to the one used by windows. I have tried NAT & host, still no good.

One of the recent VBoxes had a problem with bridged networks. See if it's the latest version.

And I think it may be a problem with it being on the same NIC (prehaps Win Firewall is blocking loopback connections?) . If possible, transfer the VM to a different machine, boot it and see if it works. If it does, then it's a problem with it being on the same NIC, possibly. If it doesn't, then it's to do with your 03 server.

What does a traceroute say (Win > Lin and Lin > Win)?

Windows firewall is disabled. I can ping the machine and the tracert looks fine. Im not sure how to allow it to "loopback" .... completely puzzled really. About to give up.

Try, in the windows server, in the command line, moving a file to/from the server.
