Syntax errors in popular programs
Hi.
I have Ubuntu Server 9.04 installed on my server that I use for e-mail/www/samba etc..
However, I recently ran into a problem.
I decided to install a CoD4 server on it, which needs a crack to work since the original developers didn't include linux support.
I downloaded and followed the instructions for it, and all went well until I was about to run it.
It couldn't find the file when I ran ./cod4_lnxded , which was the run command.
I did a sh cod4_lnxded and found a syntax error on line 1.
Same thing happened when I tried installing a ventrilo server. A different syntax error, but it still didn't work.
On both occasions, it couldn't find the file and there was a syntax error.
These programs have been tested and I didn't find any other cases that were similar to mine. And it feels like these programs have been tested enough to not have syntax errors on them (especially ventrilo).
System specs:
Ubuntu Server 9.04
AMD Athlon 3500+
2 GB RAM
I've asked a couple of people and they don't know what's wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you need more info, just say so and I will try to get it for you.
Cheers!

I formatted and re-installed ubuntu server, but it still gives the same error.
Is switching to another OS the only solution? (Simple mandriva maybe?)

I found a solution, so I thought I'd post it there if someone finds their way to this thread.
Ubuntu server doesn't have the IA32 libraries installed as default which means you have to install them.
apt-get install ia32-libs
Cheers!
