When the CD boots, you can select optional boot
parameters with the F keys. Often, one of these
options will solve these kind of problems.

What version of Ubuntu are you trying?
I tried the latest Karmic Alpha 5 and it will boot up but it freezes very shortly. Imho, Ubuntu people don't really give a rat's arse about bugs or issues. They're slow to fix things and many die-hard Linux users swear to this. I'm thinking about switching distros as I'm tired of it.
