How to remove authenticate request?
I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 on ext4 15gb and I am tearing my hair out as almost everything i do it asks me to authenticate and after unlocking any changes i make are reset....
i'm trying to set up dialup, i already downloaded the needed deb files but everytime i set it up, it doesn't work
also, how can i stop ubuntu from creating shortcuts on my desktop, like flash drive, shared documents and my hard drive
I hve ubuntu on a 15gb partition, and i can access the other 200gb partition ntfs just fine. one thing though, i can't access documents and settings but i can access everything else just fine

You have to use sudo to gain root privileges. Check this link.

Navigate to apps -- nautilus -- Desktop. Uncheck Volumes_visible check-box in right pane.Code:gconf-editor
