How to remove authenticate request?

I just installed Ubuntu 9.04 on ext4 15gb and I am tearing my hair out as almost everything i do it asks me to authenticate and after unlocking any changes i make are reset....

i'm trying to set up dialup, i already downloaded the needed deb files but everytime i set it up, it doesn't work

also, how can i stop ubuntu from creating shortcuts on my desktop, like flash drive, shared documents and my hard drive

I hve ubuntu on a 15gb partition, and i can access the other 200gb partition ntfs just fine. one thing though, i can't access documents and settings but i can access everything else just fine

Which command(s) are you executiog and what error does it throw? Have you tried wvdial?
You have to use sudo to gain root privileges. Check this link.

You can disable this feature easily. Press Alt+F2 and type this

gconf-editor

Navigate to apps -- nautilus -- Desktop. Uncheck Volumes_visible check-box in right pane.
