keyboard and mouse freezed after ugrade from 8.04 to 8.10

Hello guys i know people have similar problems but i think it has when the version 8.10 was a beta plus since i'm not a guru in linux i think it's rather safe to have information here.

So here is my problem.First of all i couldn't install the 9.04 because of error "cp:cannot create /roo/var/log" and give me an initramfs prompt. I took my 6.04 cd and installed it without any kind of trouble.upgrade to 8.04 without a problem (i mean i've used it and so)and pursuing my upgrades to 8.10 this morning and it cannot let me write my credential because keyboard and mouse are freezed.

I have a dual booting environment with 2 hd.linux on the first one and windows on the second.

i also notice that there is 3 ubuntu in the splash screen
    Ubuntu 8.10 , kernel 2.6-25-2-386 and it's recovery mode
    Ubuntu 8.10 , kernel 2.6-24-24-386 and it's recovery mode
    Ubuntu 8.10 , kernel 2.6-15-54-386 and it's recovery mode

how to fix it? i have no idea at all wish i could override it with the 9.04 cd.
please let me know what you think about that.thanks for reading

Do you have USB keyboard and mouse?

You have 3 kernels because of Upgrade. You should use latest one, 2.6-25-xxx.

Have you tried to boot all kernel versions? Do Keyboard and mouse freeze up in all kernels?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

If you have USB Keyboard and mouse then toggle Legacy USB Support option in BIOS.

Hi i have PS/2 keyboard and an usb mouse. In that case shouln't be only the mouse not working?
anyway.I'm at work right now i'll give a try as soon as i get home.

One quick question off the topic.
i've read that the error i was having with the version 9.04 is a bug.i had a donwload of 3 months ago and i downloaded a fresh one yesterday hoping that bug was fixed and available (supposing the one i freshly downloaded).Just need your opinion on that

    hello casper!
i'm sorry to inform you that it didn't work out.In the bios i have 3 options under integrated peripherals> via onchip pci device> USBemulation :
OFF (default that was it when i first spot it => Don't suppur any usb device

KM/MS => support usb legacy keyboard and Mouse, No support USb Storage

On -Support USB legacy Keyboard, Mouse and Storage

i've tried the KM/MS option and enabled keyboard and mouse and after i've tried the On option

there wasn't any changes when i booted with the 2 old kernels
but with the new kernel there is an error starting with
acpid: can't open sockect /var/run/acpid sockect : read-only file system
and chown: changing ownership of /var/log/mail.warn

I would Backup your files with a Live CD then just reinstall Ubuntu 9.04 (or whichever version you prefer using)

I'm not an Ubuntu fan so I would recommend not to use it. I don't like their policies.

Also, Ubuntu 9.10 crashes on my Thinkpad so it's not even installable. It's the only recent distro that does that.

With that said, I think you need to test on Live CDs and see a preview of how your hardware configuration reacts. I wonder if there is a log you can check. If you boot up with a Live CD, maybe you can read an error log or log that gives hints as to what the problem is?
