    External Audio card support

    Hi!
I have an assembled computer with intel 945 GCL motherboard and Dual-core (2.8GHz) processor.....

On board sound card in the mother board has got corrupted and i have attached an external Creative 5.1PCI sound blaster audio card to serve the audio requirements.

I have been given with a driver CD which works only on Windows xp...
However sometimes before i installed Ubuntu 9.04 (as a parallel platform ) in my computer and installed ALSA sound mixer for GNOME to support my creatives sound card.

After installation i am encountering the following problems
1, When I boot my system in Windows xp my sound card works perfectly and then if I reboot my computer (using restart option) on Linux platform the sound card works very well....
    2. However if I boot the system directly on linux my audio card does not work at all..
3, The same problem exist even if i put off the computer in (Windows xp)suspend mode and then reboot it on linux......
4, So every time when i want to work on Linux (and need audio) I should boot the system on Windows xp first then i should reboot (using restart option) on Linux to enjoy music on linux platform...

I could not find similar bugs on net.....

Kindly help me to fix this problem....

    Thanks,
    Giridhar.....

Try this. Go into your BIOS on boot, try to locate an option that asks "Plug and Play OS?", and set it to "No." This should tell your BIOS to init all attached devices prior to handing control over to the OS.

I have a similar (little older and defective) motherboard, built-in sound card is disabled in BIOS, and use a SBLive 5.1 PCI card with Live drive. Works okay for me.

It's a key you have to press BEFORE the computer beeps and grub loads.

Every make of BIOS is different, but common keys are: Ins, Del, F1, and F2. Sometimes it only flashes for a split second, or not at all. Just try pressing the keys about 2 seconds after power up and before the POST beep (if GRUB loads, it's too late). There's nothing wrong with hitting the keys a few times until you see grub or a message that says "Entering Setup..." or similar.

A few BIOS do have odd keys or key combinations to enter the setup, so if the common ones don't work, you may have to look up your BIOS or computer model to find out whay key you need to press.
