    Unhappy Ubuntu not loading

Okay, I have messed up Ubuntu so bad it won't boot.
It took only three steps! All I did was go to startup manager. Click on the last tab, and click 'Reset to original settings.' After reboot, grub loaded, and did it's thing, then when it said load from HD0 or something similar, no file was found! Same for ALL kernels. Except memtest.

I don't know how to fix this...

    Pleeeeeeeaaaaaasee help me!!

Are you talking about this startupmanager?
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/StartUpManager

According to that, the reset to original settings shouldn't change the menu.lst file, just cancel anything else you'd done so far. Never used it though. But it looks like it's probably just the bootloader that's messed up.

You should be able to fix it with supergrub.

Alternately, if you boot a live cd and mount your root partition, you can manually edit /boot/grub/menu.lst to correct the problem. (Or post it here and someone can probably help.)

    Thanks

Did you say that you can boot up Ubuntu on a live CD and still make changes?
I never downloaded the live CD, but I do still have the Ubuntu installation disk. Will that work?

I'm checking out Supergrub, if nothing works, I'll try it out.

    Thanks! ~Caleb

Yes, you can boot a live CD and edit your config files and whatnot. You can even install packages and such, though that gets more complicated, using chroot.

Ubuntu has both live cd's and install only cd's. On the live cd there should be an option to "Try Ubuntu without touching your system" or something along those lines.

I don't think its a Startup Manager problem. Could you post exact error message here?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    Lightbulb Error--

    Hmmmm,

Here's the whole banana. I was trying to solve my previous problem with the usplash resolution. Hoping to get it to reset, I went to the advanced tab in start-up manager and clicked 'reset to original settings' After a shutdown I noticed no change with the usplash, and upon reboot it said:

    Code:
    Boot from (HD0, 0) ext3 a3d32fee-6d0b-4bb8-b09d-f2e6754cf5d3

    Error 15: File not found

    Press any key to continue..._

Maybe my mistake was clearing what I had done so far, when I hadn't even done anything.

Confusing! Anyway I took your advice, did a live boot, and here's the menu.lst:
