I have vista on a 250gb partition and ubuntu 9.04 on a 15gb ext4 partition. i created a new partition using acronis disk director and now i get

GRUB loading... Error 17?
I have vista on a 250gb partition and ubuntu 9.04 on a 15gb ext4 partition. i created a new partition using acronis disk director and now i get

and it freezes there
how do i boot back into vista or ubuntu? i don't want to reformat because i have a lot of important stuff on there thanks

Please boot from Ubuntu Live CD and post out put of
(-l is lower case L)sudo fdisk -lLinux Registered User # 475019

Also while running Ubuntu Live cd go to installed file system (ubuntu installed not live file section) on Ubuntu and post contents of
/boot/grub/menu.lstLinux Registered User # 475019

It looks like you have created a new partitions before existing partitions and because of that, device names assigned to partitions have been changed.
You have to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/fstab files.
Boot up from Ubuntu LiveCD, mount its ext4 partition and post the contents of above mentioned files.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
