    software installation without root access

    Hi,
    can it be possible to install/use software without root access by compiling
    the source code or whatever in Home directory(the changes will occur only in
    home directory ) ? because we can not install software in Labs.

    You should be able to do this in your home directory, try it and find out. That's part of the Linux spirit is messing with things.

    You can do this, but you will have to also compile all the dependencies in your home dir as well, unless those are installed already.
