strange behavior of my Ubuntu 9.04 desktop

sometimes my computer start behaving strangely.
my mouse goes out of control, and start clickiing anywhere.
trash folder open up on its own , and they keep opening , till 20 to 30 trash folder opened.
When i work on firefox browser this problem comes very often in between and i got no option. i have to wait for few seconds to stop this drama
and all my desktop files all gone invisible, but they are in the desktop folder.
do suggest possible solution to this strange behaviour of my ubuntu.

I'd start by trying a different mouse. I've had some cheap optical mice do that irregardless of the operating system.
