    Most cable modems have a 10/100TX RJ45 Ethernet jack that's universal. Linux is pretty much designed for this kind of connection.

    Because of this kind of universal connection, there is little to no support for the USB port on these cable modems. Stick with the Ethernet interface and you should have no problems.

    In some very few lower end computers, you may need a pci net card or usb-network adapter. These are typically inexpensive and well supported in Linux. Most computers these days come with an Ethernet card or sometimes right on the MB. The port looks like a wide phone jack.
