    wine ie7 no install/ downloading youtube files

    trying to install internet explorer in wine on ubuntu internet explorer wants to validate my version of windows that i dont have or want any alternatives
    i want inter net explorere primarly because of a speedbit program that downloads files off you tube is there a linux program that can do this as well?

    I would be very surprised if IE did work under Wine. Wine has its limitations, not all Windows programs will work under it. I have found that the bigger and more complex the program the less likely it is to work. As IE is heavily integrated into the Windows kernel I would not think it a likely candidate.

    As far as downloading from U tube, I have no doubt that there are stand alone programs available which will do it but I use a Firefox extension called Download Helper which does the job very well.

    In firefox, the Flashgot plugin allows redirecting your downloads to a different download manager, or you can download media content that's normally embedded, including youtube videos. You right-click on the filmstrip icon that appears when content starts playing and click on the file you want to download.

    There are several other plugins that will also accomplish the task. A quick search on Mozilla's add-ons page will prove productive.

    If you really want to use IE, IEs4Linux does work to IE6. I have never tried it with IE7, but I'd think the very problem you mention would throw a monkey wrench into the install.
