    Modem not detected

    Hello ppl,

Well im a newbie here, switched over to Ubuntu jus a few days back. The problem im facing is with the modem. I want to know how to set it up. Through a forum someone told me to use pon dsl-provider command on the terminal, it worked fine. But when i tried to use GNOME-PPL to detect a modem it said Modem not found. I would prefer using a GUI than the terminal to connect and disconnect. It shows NetXtreme BCM5705 Gigabit Ethernet in the Device Manager.
Also the system automatically connects the internet for updates etc.. how to do i disable this ??

Plz help me out. Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Vinith

We do alot of setup at least in the CLI. After we know what the issue is and fix it, we can set it up to work in a GUI (or at least make an icon if nothing else).

Assuming your modem is internal, please post the output of the command:

    lspci -nn

That'll tell us what cards you have installed, hopefully including the modem. Then we can work on finding out what we need to run it. If your modem is external, please tell us the make and model, and what port you connect it to.

    Thank you.
