    Unhappy No NVidia driver

I have the same problem as jmichell157. I have had to re-install Ubuntu 8.10 after an update to 9.04 shredded my hard drive. The Driver Manager says "No drivers". My previous installation picked up the NVidia drivers. I'm now stuck with 800x600 resolution

    brian@brian-laptop:~$ sudo lspci | grep -i vga

    [sudo] password for brian:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 06ec (rev a1)

    brian@brian-laptop:~$ grep -i driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf

    Driver "kbd"

    Driver "mouse"

    Driver "synaptics"

    brian@brian-laptop:~$

Your nvidia card is very new, and I don't think ubuntu does have the driver available yet. You will have to download and install the driver from nvidia.

    Drivers for Nvidia Geforce G105M

By the way, to download the latest pci-ids, so your card is listed properly by lspci, do
    Code:
    sudo update-pciids

I didn't have to go through all that, last time I installed Ubuntu. I got the normal Restricted drivers available message from the driver manager and clicked on the enable button. I might try a re reinstall and see if it does better.

Ubuntu 8.10 has the drivers for the NVidia graphics. 9.04 also has them.

Yes, it sorted it out. I had to re-install after a major disk problem, and I think I downloaded the wrong version from Distrowatch the first time. Version 8.10 picked up the graphics card. I then upgraded to 9.04 and I now have NVIDIA X Server settings on the Administration list.

I'm going to wait until the official launch of 9.10 before I upgrade to that. I have a problem with my wireless, and it has been fixed in 9.10 When I tried to install the alpha version as a dual boot, the partitioner, ruined my hard drive. (Multipy - claimed blocks in inode 184350:5615070)
