I am still facing a problem logging Ubuntu client machines into a Windows domain.
I have installed Likewise-open and using the GUI, I can join the domain.

I use the login of MyDomain.local\username and If I use hard wired LAN connection on the machine, it works fine. However using the wireless lan connection it sometimes works after nearly 5 mins of trying and sometimes not at all.
Strangely , if I use the login syntax of mydomain\username ( note the lack of capitalisation and lack of 'local') then it apparently logs in immediately but windows shares on the server are not accessible.
Below is the advice kindly given to me by two folks on this forum a few days ago which appeared to solve the problem.
However, I spoke too soon when I thanked them. I have started a new thread on this - hope that's acceptable.

If you go into Network Manager through the applet beside the clock you can configure the connections. Change the current connection type to "System" or depending on your versioin it might be "Connect Automatically". This lets Network Manager authenticate itself independently of any user, no longer requiring your keyring to log onto the network. The network connection should be up before you attempt to log on then.

You may also need to disable the password for the Keyring Manager. Since a properly set up wireless has a password, it is then kept in the Keyring Manager. The Keyring Manager is then protected by another password.

To disable the Keyring Manager password:

Open: Applications-->Accessories-->Passwords and Encryption Keys

Click on the "Passwords" tab, then click to highlight the "Passwords: default" line. Right-click, and select "Change Password". You need to enter the current Keyring Manager password, but leave the "New Password" lines blank.

It will warn you that what you are doing is a bad thing, but continue anyway. Doing this is necessary if you have configured your system for Autologin, as I do. I am not sure if it will help in your case.
