Graphics Problem in Ubuntu Installation
Hello Everyone!
I tried to install Ubuntu in my Lenovo G430 3000 and when I reach graphic for the xserver, it fails. I get a warbled screen. I have successfully installed Fedora, CentOS, Debian, Mint, SUSE, Mandriva, PC Linux and have not encountered graphics problems. However, with Puppy Linux & Shepherd Linux, I have the same experience as with Ubuntu. Is it my laptop adjustment?
I thought it was a compatibility issue between Lenovo and Ubunut but recently, I have been reading over the internet about other people with the same laptop as I successfully installing Ubuntu in the Lenovo G430.
May I please ask for some help regarding my problem. Thank you very much and I look forward to have my laptop run on Ubuntu also.
I have placed some data below for whatever its worth.
Code:[jun@localhost ~]$ lspci | grep -i vga 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07) [jun@localhost ~]$

I think this is ubuntu 9x problem.
Ive heard they have integrated the display settings into the kernel so it is not easily accessible.
you can do a control alt and backspace to get out of the X or do control alt F1thru F6 to get into loging screen.
login and then do;
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
(this is what the xorg.conf says to do but you may want to use -reconfigure with no switches)?
I think you can also do a control alt + and - to adjust res. for monitor?

Thanks guys.
I wonder how the other Lenovo G430 users were able to work around this bug.
Cheers!

I would suggest you start by following the proposed fixes in the link.

Well, it's possible that not all Lenovo G430's use the exact same graphics chip, and different intel chips perform differently. Not everyone experiences the same trouble.
Also, as noted in the release notes, there are some workarounds that might help, such as disabling kernel mode setting, changing the acceleration method, adding the "greedy migration" heuristics to xorg.conf. If you google, you'll find a bunch of guides for workarounds.
Last thing, these problems should be mostly fixed in 9.10, which is due out soon. You might consider upgrading.

I think this would be my safest option for now.
I was trying to install an Ubuntu 8.04 when I experienced this.
I can only hope that this bug is fixed when the 9.10 is released in the coming days. I will try a fresh install with a live CD. I heard Ubuntu sends copies of the installation & live CD for free.Or I can always download an ISO.
Thanks

Ubuntu does send free cd's, but I don't think of beta releases, so you'd have to wait until the final release. Also, it takes upwards of 2 months to receive. If you're able, you'd be better off downloading the iso.
