Yahoo Messenger 1.0.4 for Linux is no longer developed or supported.

Use Pidgin, Empathy, or Kopete, all of which support the yahoo protocol.

    Hi Linux Guru,
I am using Pidgin but when my friends invite me for Video chat, I am unable to accept their invitation as the menu option for Video call is in Grey mode. Webcam and sound device are working fine but unable to make audio/video calls. Please help. Thank you.

As far as I know, gyachi is the only yahoo client capable of using the yahoo webcam protocol. However, I don't think it's maintained anymore, and it may not work after the recent changes yahoo made to their servers.

Probably the easiest thing would be to switch to something using the xmpp protocol, which is probably the best supported.

Jabber and Google Talk both use the xmpp protocol.

The XMPP/Jabber idea is good, but the TS's friends will all have to move from Yahoo! to Jabber, too. Anyone ever tried to convince all their friends to ditch their well-known, heavily-promoted, but proprietary and Windows-centered (as in using them on non-Windows machines is illegal due to the lack of official clients) protocols to something as free and well-equipped, but obscure and comparatively cumbersome as Jabber? Says a Jabber user, by the way.

That, or the TS will have to find both a server with a Yahoo! transport that supports all features and a Jabber client to which the same applies. I seriously doubt there are such things.
