    Hard drive, change system

I'm getting rid of an old hard drive and have a new one in. My old one is still in, and will be until I can find out how to import programs/settings from the computer (not the OS, the programs are there but /boot must be stuffed or something so I don't want that system.

What is wrong with the old hard drive booting? If you address that issue first then you can use the dd command to clone the old drive to the new drive.

No. The old one won't boot so I don't want that system. But I've deleted it anyway, so don't worry.

Well, the programs are re-installed via the CD or the repositories. AFA your personal files and settings, back up /home (you can use DAR for archive splitting if you need to back up to CD/DVD) and restore it after the new install.
