How is the harddrive connected to the system ... is it SATA? you may have a problem with xp not recognising the hardware.

If you have a SATA drive and Windows is not recognizing it during the install, try toggling the drive to legacy mode in your system BIOS and try again. Either that, or you can install SATA drivers from a floppy when Windows gets to the point that it asks if you need to install any drivers.

Seen this way too many times when people tried to downgrade from vista to xp... You need the "chipset drivers", find the chipset driver specific for your PC burn it to a CD when you insert the windows xp installation CD you will see on the bottom a message that says "If you need to install additional drivers press F2 or F6 (read carefully on the bottom)" After pressing F2 insert the cd and follow instructions.

As mentioned above, you only have a few options. If your hardware is too new for the XP install CD then you must get a driver disk or slipstream the XP disc with a driver (which involves extracting the XP cd, inserting your driver, then burning it).

If you've decided that you want to install Linux again, just put the Linux installation disk in the CD/DVD drive and reboot your machine after making sure that it is set to boot from the CD/DVD drive before the hard drive.

    Run Windows on Linux

Suggestion for you, run Windows on Linux.
    1. Download, install Virtual Box
    2. Run Virtual Box, and configure what O/S you want to run.
    3. Follow the instructions and supply your new O/S. The prgm will do the rest as long as you read.
    4. Voila, you have Windows on Linux.

It's good to have this so that if you're browsers in Linux don't run flash or it is corrupted, then you've got IE to rely on. Need thing about this all is that you don't need to run anti-virus or spyware. Free.

    Rgds,

    Vince
